What is TTYEmulator ?
- The TTY relay service communication assistant (CA) connects TTY relay calls with people who communicate by telephone. The CA converts voice-to-text and text-to-voice communication. The text is displayed on the user’s TTY. Because communication using a TTY could flow only in one direction at a time, TTY etiquette was developed.
- Call 911 directly using TTY from a wireless phone over the cellular network or from a landline telephone. Text 911 directly from a wireless device (in areas where text-to-911 is available). Use relay services to place a TTY or Captioned Telephone Service (CTS) call from a wireless phone over the cellular network or from a landline phone.
- A TTY (teletypewriter) is a device that helps people who are deaf, speech-impaired, or hard-of-hearing use a phone to communicate. While TTY devices were initially designed for landline phones, they are used today with both landlines and cell phones.
TTYEmulator is a free terminal emulator application which can act as a client for the SSH, Telnet, rlogin, raw TCP and serial computing protocols. TTYEmulator is written for Microsoft Windows. It is compiled statically with no specific DLL dependencies.

Most TTY devices use Baudot mode. In DTMF mode you can decode digits pressed at phone keyboard. Signal speed is selected via the 'Speed' menu. Most TTY devices use 45.45 or 50 bauds speed. Some devices use 47.6 bauds speed. If your sound card can work in full-duplex mode, it can be useful to enable the 'Setup / Interface / Use duplex sound card.

TTY stands for Text Telephone. It is also sometimes called a TDD, or Telecommunication Device for the Deaf. TTY is the more widely accepted term, however, as TTYs are used by many people, not just people who are deaf.
Tty Application
A TTY is a special device that lets people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired use the telephone to communicate, by allowing them to type messages back and forth to one another instead of talking and listening. A TTY is required at both ends of the conversation in order to communicate.
To use a TTY, you set a telephone handset onto special acoustic cups built into the TTY (some TTY models can be plugged directly into a telephone line). Then, type the message you want to send on the TTY's keyboard. As you type, the message is sent over the phone line, just like your voice would be sent over the phone line if you talked. You can read the other person's response on the TTY's text display.
If you don't have a TTY, you can still call a person who is deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired by using the Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS). With TRS, a special operator types whatever you say so that the person you are calling can read your words on his or her TTY display. He or she will type back a response, which the TRS operator will read aloud for you to hear over the phone. Toll free TRS services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
